Materials and Methods

The research question for the project is: What type of water soaked into pinto beans will make the beans grow fastest?
Measuring tool:
We are going to use a small measuring tape to measure how tall the plants grow.
Planters:
We are going to use 3 1/2 inch planters to hold the plants.
Water:
The water we are going to soak the beans in true value distilled water, true value bottled water, and Bushnell tap water. We are also going to water the plants in tap water.
Soil:
The soil we are using is hyponex potting soil.
Beans :
We are using pinto beans for our project.
Preparing the plant:
First, soak 20 beans in the tap water, 20 beans in the distilled water, and 20 beans in the bottled water. Be sure to use as much water as you need to cover the pinto beans completely. Soak each of the pinto beans for 2 days. Second, fill each planter 3/4 of the way full with soil. Third, place 1 bean in each planter and cover with soil and place in the sun for the plants to grow.
Research and process:
Water the plants with 1/2 cup tap water every day except on weekends. Measure the plants every other day for 3 weeks. Then, record the data.

Science fair materials

Our time frame for our project is 3 weeks. The materials that we will need include pento beans, seed planters, bottled water, tap water, distilled water,  measuring tape, and soil. We will measure our plants every other day to see how tall they are with measuring tape.

Purpose Statement

We will test this by measuring how tall each set of plants have grown with each type of water after 3 weeks. The variables that we are controlling are the types of water we soak the beans in. We won't be able to control the temperature in the room. The variable for test A is distilled water. The variable for test B is bottled water. The variable for test C is tap water. The data collected will be how tall the plants have grown. The world cares because it will save people time and it will also produce more plants. We expect to learn which water is best to use to make plants grow fastest.

We are going to soak pinto beans in different types of water ( distilled, tap, and bottled) to see which type of water makes the beans grow fastest. We really want to do this because nobody ever knows when they should start planting their garden, so if they start late our results will help their plants grow quickly, that way they get good results from their garden instead of their plants dying when it gets cold. The variable that will change is the types of water; we are going to use distilled water, tap water, and bottled water.
